It's rather amusing how this blog is utilized by its author, i.e., me. The first entry in May 2008 was inspired by my son's use of a daily journal to record daily highlights. Would my daily accounts be of any interest to anyone but my mother- and she isn't on-line. My good friend Len writes a daily blog which is amusing and interesting. He indeed is a gifted and intelligent person who can effectively communicate with the written word. In the last few months he has even kicked up the interest level by occasionally adding photos.
Since I have four digital cameras in working order and within easy reach and the family was racing towards a myriad of events, I thought that sharing photos with commentary would indeed interest family and friends. Joseph was graduating from junior high, Nicole and Brian were each counting down to their weddings, and Connie was preparing for her 3-day walk which would add an exclamation point to her 50th birthday. Mix in Vincent's club soccer schedule, my mom's 10 week visit spanning the two weddings, and normal events like birthdays, anniversaries, etc photo ops promised to be plentiful. Hence the inspiration and motivation to share these wonderful memories as they occurred.
Now all those events came with much joy and without a hitch. So now what? Four cameras and a camcorder and nothing to shoot. We are looking forward to at least one of the nuptials yielding a grandchild but until then....
So the regular viewers of this blog, all two of you, have noticed that the entries have come less and less frequently. Two reasons for the down turn. First, as is obvious from above, there are fewer events to write about. Yes I could try being observational and otherwise interesting but I am not Len. In fact I go to his blog almost daily to get a dose of something interesting and/or funny.
The second reason for the blog is to spark interest and dialog with friends and family that I do not talk with regularly. Hey maybe once a week someone different would chime in. Alas, this has not worked out very well. Grant it that the few who check in appreciate the blog for what it is and get a kick out of it. But the spontaneity and dialog with a WIDE circle of family and friends has not materialized. In fact, Facebook may seem better suited for the quick, almost IM, mode of keeping in touch. I have a Facebook account and may turn to it for daily scribbling. We will see.
For now, let's all have fun and see what the new year brings. Only good news allowed.
