Heat and Dodger Game Fun

Starting with Wednesday and continuing through Sunday the heat was on in Southern California with the hottest temperatures occuring over the weekend. The hottest weather we experienced was while enjoying a wonderful afternoon at Dodger Stadium. Childhood friend, Len, arranged for the boys and I to join him for one of the games for which he holds season tickets. His subscription is for two seats but he pulled some strings to add the two adjacent seats. So there we were spending a sunny afternoon in triple digit heat. Fortunately we were able to move a few rows back and stayed in the shade until the very last inning. At that point the excitment of closing out the game with a one run lead kept the attention on the field. The Dodgers won 4-3 to break a two game losing streak.

Len will claim that he had a lot to do with the Dodgers not losing because whenever he wears his Chad Billingsley jersey on days he pitches, such as today, the pitcher does not lose. As it turns out, after the Dodgers jumped ahead 4-0 by getting the first four batters around to score, Chad slowly gave the Indians reason to hope that they could win it. Indian starter Paul Byrd made a remarkable comeback and shut the team down after surviving that first inning. The Dodgers never threatened to add to their score but the Indians didn't scrap enough to tie. A great relay home cut down the last Indian attempt to tie in the fifth. In the end, good company, good food, good game made it a great day at the park.

The weekend ended up being a busy one. Friday evening Joseph went to the movies with his band mates and watched the Hulk. Overnight he and his brother spent the night at a friends house. Saturday morning we picked up the boys after going for a morning workout along the strand. This weekend we headed north of the pier for about a 4 mile round trip stroll. Because of the heat the usual marine cloud cover was gone and presented a sunny view of the waves breaking near the shore. You could see the waves breaking almost in unison up and down the line. Because there also was a Summer Solstice run occuring, a long line of runners formed along the water. Wouldn't you know it that I didn't have a camera with me. I'll just have to keep it stored in my mind's eye.

Later that day- a hot day- we headed over to the boys cousin Angelo's birthday party which started at the skate park in Torrance. Boy was it hot there. The boys wanted to skate but couldn't get their safety gear together. As it was none of the boys who skated stayed out there very long. Since the boys didn't skate they accompanied me to run a few errands until the house party began. Eventually we got to the party at which point a breeze kicked in and temperatures cooled a bit. All in all the party was great fun.

Can't forget that on Saturday Brian brought his dog Buddy over so that we could baby sit him overnight. He was invited to a party that would keep him away from home too long for the young pup (who just got neutered that day). Yipes. He and Dinker got along fine and we kept them outside to ensure that they stayed cool. Rosie was out of town attending a wedding in Boulder so we missed her this last weekend. Vincent, the social animal, took off in the middle of Angelo's party to go to another birthday party which had an overnight stay. We picked him up right before going to church on Sunday. From church we went home and took off to meet Len for the baseball game. After the game the boys and I headed to Bambo Garden for an early dinner. While we were at the game Connie and the girls went to David's Bridal and followed that by taking in "Sex and the City." Hey, I think I'll go to work to cool down and relax.
