Halloween 2008- No little Ninjas

Halloween 2008 continues to illustrate the evolution our family is undergoing this year. Weddings, junior high graduation followed by the start of high school, and the transition out of childhood of our youngest. The excitment this year had little to do with carving pumpkins, decorating the house, buying candy, costume hunting, and trick or treating. The major emphasis was with Joseph and his band mates putting on a little halloween themed musical concert. They pulled it off with some success and flaunted the skills they've honed in the last year or so. AND they danced with the swirl of emotions one gets from the challenge of not screwing up in front of a live audience while the adrenaline slams you forward so that in the end there is approval in the form of applause.

The boys did good- in fact they did remarkably well.

After the performance Jospph and the band along with some buddies did a round of trick or treating in the neighborhood and then came home. I'm not even certain he bothered wearing a costume. His younger brother, meanwhile, wasn't even home but rather spent time at a friend's home with other Tweens. These guys were propelled to this holiday as they have as long as they can remember but now dread being seen in public even muttering the words trick or treat. What they learned is that you can still have a good time with friends but you just don't need to go door to door. Welcome to adulthood and organized parties!

I really missed not having the boys decorate a pumpkin. Invariably some mistake would get made and fixed but the results were always proudly presented at the front door. Ah the smell of burning pumpkins and roasting pumpking seeds! The pumpkins would cook a bit if the candle inside wasn't centered just right and the seeds gutted from the bulbous fruit were roasted for a ready treat.

I have run out of time for now and apologize for posting photos without explanation but that will give us something to talk about when we speak. Below are some photos from past Halloweens. The photo that does not display correctly may pop open in a separate window if you double click on it. The last photos are from this Halloween.

What a noisy house on Halloween!

Wait till the boys get to the age when you won't know where they are at 1AM? :)

On your earlier post, what's with all the women in your house???? And who's single??? :)
